Sharon Wheeler’s ScarWork (2-part course)

March 9th &10th and April 13th &14th 2024

Bledlow Ridge Village Hall, Bledlow Ridge,Bledlow Ridge,Bucks United Kingdom

Please note this course will be in TWO PARTS : 9th,10th March and 13th,14th April. Please make sure you are available for both dates : 10am – 6pm each day.

This course is open to qualified, hands-on practitioners with a minimum of one year in practice and a minimum of Level 3 certification in Anatomy and Physiology. A well-designed, four-day course that will change how you see scars and the body.  The splitting of the course into two parts allows you the time and space to develop your confidence and skills by practising not only on fellow students and members of the public during the course, but on family members and friends (unpaid) in between trainings; this has shown to allow for a better development of understanding and practical skill by the students.  Taught by Rachel Fisher, accredited ScarWork tutor.

This work is the brainchild of Sharon Wheeler.

Working with scar tissue is like speaking another language in the world of fascia. ScarWork is light, relaxed and effective on most scars. It is easy to learn and a pleasure to do. There are over 20 techniques that are designed to smooth out uneven lumps, bumps, ridges, strings, gaps, and fill holes painlessly, re-establishing the resilient 3D quality of the fascial web has been known to create better functioning. More than this, we teach you an approach to scars and adhesions, and how to follow the tissue as it replays its traumatic patterning.

With the restrictions and adhesions of a scar resolved, impaired nerves can regain sensation and internal organ functions can normalize. Not to mention that the cosmetic effect can be remarkable.

Training includes covering the emotional effect of scars, and full body integration after treatment.  You are encouraged to volunteer your own scars for work to experience this first hand and we will have a variety of scar models (members of the public) joining us for practice sessions. We aim to bring you to a level of confidence, by the end of the course, that will enable you to start working with scars immediately in your practice, once your insurance has been arranged. The two-part structure of the training allows for time to practice on family and friends in the interim, and bring questions to be addressed on part 2.

N.B. Most courses run but you are advised not to pre-pay travel/accommodation until you have confirmation that there are sufficient numbers on the course for it to go ahead.

Cancellation policy: Your deposit is your commitment to the course and is non-refundable. If you have paid in full but are unable to attend the course due to exceptional circumstances, you are welcome to transfer your place to someone else as long as they are suitably qualified at a fee of £40. If this is not possible the Principal will look to resolve the situation in a way that is fair to the both parties and will if possible transfer you to another course but charge a one-off £40 administration fee. This can only be done up to four weeks before the start of the course. Please note that a minimum of six students are required for this course to run and if your late withdrawal means the course cannot run, you will be unable to do so out of fairness to the other students. On our side, if for any reason we are forced to cancel, we will offer you a place on another course or refund 100% of all monies paid

ScarWork

Scarwork is a manual, light touch therapy which helps to reduce discomfort, tightness and movement restrictions that can happen as a result of scarring. Scarwork can help anyone with any type of scarring, these might be scars from childhood, recent operations, minor medical proceedures or trauma. Scarwork uses specific techniques that focus on the deeper tissues, integrating them the fascial network, freeing up any tensions held in scarred areas.

Reintegrating the scar into the fascial matrix is done using a series of manual, light touch techniques, always within the clients comfort levels and feeding back to the therapist.  Using these specific techniques the scar and associated adhesions may free up causing a cascade effect within the body leading to an improvement in function, movement and whole-body balance.

Scarwork was developed by Sharon Wheeler, who was trained by Ida Rolf and over the course of the next 40 years alongside her Rolfing, she practised ScarWork therapy. Sharon now teaches around the world and in 2014 trained Jan Trewartha, the first scarworker in the UK.
